Ott sets the school record in the high jump at GVSU Al Owens Classic

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Julia Ott led the charge at the Grand Valley State Al Owens Classic on Friday and Saturday setting the school record in the high jump that stood for nearly 10 years. Ott cleared 5' 7.25" breaking Emily Michalski's 5' 6" set at the WHAC Championship in 2016. She won the event and also hit the NCAA qualifying mark, which places her seventh currently in Division II.

Arrionna Wallace ran a personal best in the 100 meters (11.86) to win the event after clocking 11.95 in the prelims. Jakya Mack-Smith was also able to finish fourth in the 100 meters (12.23) for her new PR. Wallace would also finish second in the 200 meters (25.17) and set a new PR. The 4x400 relay consisting of Adeline Nickels, Madalyn Daniels, Lacy Hess, and Soleil Moore took second with a time of 4:01.50. Jayla Procter finished third in the discus with a throw of 139' 11". Madison Hernandez finished third in the hammer throw at a distance of 155' 7" for a new PR. Hannah Fitzpatrick finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 111' 10".

Ethan Scholten on the men's side would finish third in the 100 meters (10.68) after running 10.65 in the prelims. Malcolm Eavin placed fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.76. Lucas Van Meter placed sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.13 and set a new PR. Marcus Nystrom took fifth in the 110 hurdles crossing the line at 14.79 in the prelims and 15.02 in the finals. The 4x400 relay consisting of Adam Jorgensen, Carson Dykstra, Harrison Follett, and Earvin placed third in the event with a time of 3:23.62. Scholten would also have a strong showing in the long jump with a mark of 22' 10.5". Thomas Johnson won the shot put with a throw of 52' 11.5" and set a new PR.
