Davenport Keeps Pace in GLIAC Race with Road Split

DETROIT, Mich. — Davenport split a pivotal GLIAC doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Gary L. Bryce Field, falling 1–0 in a tightly contested opener before bouncing back with a 5–2 victory over Wayne State in Game 2.
With the split, the Panthers moved to 12-30 overall and 8-12 in conference play, while the Warriors sit at 15-22 overall and 7-11 in the GLIAC.

Davenport currently holds the sixth spot in the GLIAC standings, just ahead of Wayne State in seventh. Parkside and Purdue Northwest each have nine conference wins, sitting in fifth and fourth place, respectively, as the race for the final postseason spots tightens.

Game 1
DU was held off the scoreboard in the opener despite multiple early scoring chances, ultimately dropping a 1–0 decision in walk-off fashion.

The Panthers threatened immediately in the first inning when Kailyne Luna doubled to left and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Savanna Clark followed with a walk and stolen base to put two runners in scoring position, but Wayne State escaped the jam to keep the game scoreless.

Davenport applied pressure again in the second as Sydney Drenth lined a double to left-center, but once more the Panthers were unable to capitalize.

The game remained a scoreless battle into the seventh before the Warriors broke through in the bottom half. A single from McCullough and a double by Near set the stage, and Garver delivered a walk-off single to left to bring home the lone run.

Hannah Tahaney turned in a strong complete-game effort in the circle, allowing just one run on nine hits while striking out two and walking two over 6.1 innings. Chloe Parker led the Panthers with two hits, while Luna and Drenth each recorded doubles.

Game 2
Davenport responded in the back half, using a three-run fifth inning and dominant relief work from Kayla Widner to secure a 5–2 victory and salvage the split.

Wayne State took an early 2–0 lead in the first inning, capitalizing on walks and patient at-bats to score twice without recording a hit.

The Panthers chipped away in the third when Drenth walked and later scored during a caught stealing sequence following a Luna single, trimming the deficit to 2–1.

Davenport seized control in the fifth. Luna and Clark reached base to set the table for Ally Prasnjak, who launched a three-run home run to left field to give the Panthers a 4–2 advantage.

DU added insurance in the sixth as Drenth singled and later came around to score on Luna's RBI double, extending the lead to 5–2.

After the early trouble in the circle, Widner delivered exactly what Davenport needed. Entering in relief in the first inning, she settled in and tossed 6.2 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out two to earn the win.

Prasnjak provided the decisive swing with her three-run homer, while Luna finished with two hits and an RBI. Drenth scored twice in the victory.
