Panthers Advance to G-MAC Semifinals Following Win Over Thomas More

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The No. 3-seeded Davenport University men's lacrosse team secured a convincing 17–10 victory over No. 6-seeded Thomas More (7-9) in the G-MAC Quarterfinal on Saturday at the DU Turf Field. DU dominated the faceoff circle, winning 18 of 29 faceoffs, which helped it establish an early lead with six goals in the first quarter. 

The game commenced with Logan Flaherty securing the opening faceoff for Davenport, leading to a quick goal by Griffin Poll, assisted by Jayden Ashley, just 14 seconds into the quarter. Davenport maintained momentum with Charlie Fritz scoring a man-up goal at 9:21, assisted by Luke Eichbauer, followed by Rayce McGilvry finding the net less than 20 seconds later, courtesy of another Ashley assist. The Panthers continued to dominate with Luke Fritz and Eichbauer adding goals, extending the lead to 5-0. Charlie Fritz struck again at 3:40, increasing the advantage to six. The Saints managed to get on the board and the first quarter concluded with a commanding 6–1 lead for DU.

Tommy Becker scored early in the second quarter for Davenport, extending its lead to 7–2 at 6:57. The Saints responded with a goal at 4:19, narrowing the gap to 8–3. Luke Fritz quickly answered for the Panthers with a goal at 3:25, reinforcing their advantage. The Saints concluded the quarter's scoring with a goal just eight seconds remaining, ending the quarter at 8–4 in favor of DU.

The Saints started the third quarter strong with Joe Mariani scoring twice to bring the score to 6–8. Davenport responded effectively, as Dylan Fallon netted a goal with assistance from Becker at 12:53, and Poll added another man-down goal at 10:34, pushing Davenport's lead to 10–7. Luke Fritz capitalized on a man-up opportunity with a goal at 6:16, and Poll followed up quickly with his second goal of the quarter at 5:59, extending the lead to 11–7. Despite a late goal for the Saints, Charlie Fritz and Eichbauer each scored for Davenport to end the quarter with a 14–8 advantage.

Eichbauer scored the first DU goal of the final quarter, assisted by Charlie Fritz at 6:43, putting the score at 15-9. Later, the Panthers capitalized on a man-up opportunity as Ashley scored with an assist from Fallon at 4:12. Eichbauer added another goal for Davenport, assisted by Luke Fritz at 3:22, solidifying a 17–10 victory for the Panthers.
