Caledonia, Mich. - The Panthers come out strong and earn their second conference and overall win of the season.
In the first half DU was able to shut down the Cardinal offense, and provide a little offense of their own. Ashley Phillips recorded the first goal of the game on a breakaway pass from teammate Daniella Bugli. Ten minutes later Shayla Crossman lofted a ball over the goalies head to put the Panthers up 2-0 going into halftime and give her, her 4th goal of the season.
The Panthers stayed hot at the beginning of the second half when Amy Wright passed to Brooke Guiles who capitalized on another breakaway goal 2:30 into the period to extend the lead to 3-0. The Panthers scoring was then shut down after a goalie change made by the Cardinals. However their defense held on after giving up two goals in the half to led DU to their second conference win and 2-6-1 overall record.
Davenport will look to complete the sweep of the Cardinals (2-3-3, 0-3-3 WHAC) on Saturday when they travel to Ann Arbor, MI for a 12:00pm start time. This will be the first time in school history that the soccer team will compete against the same team back-to-back in a season.
