Ann Arbor, Mich. - For the second time in three days, the Panthers battled the Cardinals down to the final minute. Only this time, Concordia forced overtime and eventually put away the game winner in a 4-3 double-overtime victory.
DU posted a 3-2 victory over Concordia two days ago when they held off a furious rally late, but were unable to do the same today as the Cardinals earned their first win in conference play.
Davenport got on the board first when Shayla Crossman put a nice ball in the box and Ashley Phillips knocked it by the keeper just 13 minutes into the game. Brooke Guiles and Lynne Blomberg each added a goal as well for the Panthers and they were in full control with less than 10 minutes to go. That's when CUAA got going on offense and the home team posted three goals in the final 6:30 to force overtime.
The first ten extra minutes was a defensive battle as neither team took any significant chances at winning the game, but that was completely the opposite in the second ten minutes of overtime as Concordia remained aggressive and put a ball away off a rebound to win the game.
DU falls to 2-7-1 on the year and 2-5-0 in WHAC play. They will travel to Fort Wayne, IN for a non-conference game Tuesday with Taylor Fort-Wayne before starting the second round of WHAC play next Saturday at Madonna University.
