Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Panthers officially opened their field today but were unable to come out on top as they played Cornerstone to a 1-1 draw. With the tie, DU now stands at 8-6-1 overall and 4-4-1 in WHAC play.
Davenport men's soccer team started its history today at their brand new turf field and after a solid first half, looked poised to open it with a win. David Wood got DU an early lead in the first half when he put away a ball on a perfect pass from Efrain Hernandez. The goal was Wood's 13th of the season and allowed DU to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Early in the second half after a defensive breakdown, the Golden Eagles struck to tie the game at 1-1. Davenport gave themselves many chances down the stretch including numerous tried that either hit the cross bar or post. The game went into overtime as neither team could post a late goal and each team had equal chances in the extra frames, but again came up empty on the offensive end.
The draw now puts Davenport at 8-6-1 on the year and 4-4-1 in conference play. They will stay at home this weekend when they welcome in Indiana Tech for a 2:30 PM game.
