CALEDONIA, Mich. — The Panthers split their weekend homestand, defeating Purdue Northwest 2-1 on Friday with a last-minute goal from
Isiah Meyer before falling 1-0 to Parkside on Sunday for Senior Day. Davenport closes its regular-season conference schedule this week, hosting Saginaw Valley State on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. before traveling to Northern Michigan on Friday, Oct. 23, for a noon kickoff.
Davenport battled through a challenging afternoon against Purdue Northwest, with goalkeeper Carter McGowan making 11 saves to tie his season high. The Lions took a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute, but Charlie Davis converted a penalty kick in the 54th minute to even the score. With the match tied late, Brody Conlon delivered a corner kick, and Isiah Meyer redirected the ball into the net with a header in the closing minute for his fourth goal of the season and second game-winning goal, securing the 2-1 victory despite Purdue Northwest's advantages in shots and shots on goal.
The Panthers looked to carry that momentum into Sunday's Senior Day matchup against Parkside, but an early goal proved decisive in the 1-0 loss. Davenport outshot the Rangers 17-15 and matched them with eight shots on goal. Archie Oliver led the Panthers with four shots, while Drew Matyunas added three. McGowan recorded six saves, but Parkside goalkeeper Mateusz Pass kept Davenport off the scoreboard.
Davenport opens its final week of conference play against Saginaw Valley State on Wednesday at Pappas Stadium. The Cardinals defeated the Panthers 6-0 in their first meeting on Sept. 16. Davenport then travels to Northern Michigan on Friday to close its regular-season conference schedule. Meyer's late winner and Davis' third goal of the season highlighted the Panthers' offense last weekend, while McGowan finished with 17 saves across both matches. Davenport will look to carry that momentum into its final two conference tests.
