Grand Rapids, Mich. - Looking to gain some momentum heading into the WHAC Tournament today, DU came out on the losing end of a 2-1 overtime game with Aquinas College. The loss drops DU to 9-7-1 on the year and 5-5-1 in the WHAC.
Davenport came into the game looking to seal up the 3rd seed in the upcoming WHAC playoffs but were unable to come out with a victory. The Saints opened the scoring at the 28:53 mark when Jeovani Pantoja scored on a pass to the right side of the box to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.
Davenport had a few good chances to even the score but were unable to connect before halftime and the game went into break 1-0 AQ. After another collection of great chances, the Panthers got on the scoreboard on a header from Carl Winterbottom off of a corner kick from Lewis Robinson. The defense for both teams then took over and did not allow many good opportunities down the stretch and the game went into overtime.
An exciting game quickly ended in the extra ten minutes when Pantoja scored his second goal of the game just 3:20 into overtime. The assist came from Chad DeRussel.
The loss drops DU to 9-7-1 and 5-5-1 in WHAC play. They will look to get a win in their final regular season game on Saturday when they host Siena Heights at 3:00. The game will be the last home game for the five Davenport seniors and there will be a barbeque beginning at 3:00 PM.
