Adrian, Mich. - Playing on the road is something the women's soccer team will have to get used to as they began today with a 4-1 loss to Siena Heights. Including today's game, the Panthers will play four of their next five matches on opposing team's turf.
Siena Heights came into today's game at 3-1-1 in WHAC play and only a few points behind conference leader Madonna. The Saints showed the young Panthers how far they still have to go as Siena defeated DU 4-1. The loss is the second in a row for the Panthers after defeating Indiana Tech a week ago.
The host Saints jumped out to a quick lead and never let up today as they posted their first goal just 17:45 into the game and added a second just a minute later. Trailing 2-0 at halftime, DU needed to come out aggressive in the second half but it was the home team that kept firing shots and got two more goals at the 59:15 and 76:14 marks to lead 4-0.
Shayla Crossman, who has been the leader on offense for the Panthers over the past few games, finally got DU on the scoreboard with just under two minutes to play on a cross from Erin Vermeersch.
With the loss, DU falls to 1-6-1 on the year and 1-4-0 in WHAC play. The Panthers will play next on Thursday when they welcome Concordia to Grand Rapids in a makeup game from the 9/13 postponement. DU will then see the Cardinals for the second time in three days when they hit the road for Ann Arbor on Saturday.
