Adrian, Mich. - The men's soccer team as a whole has been a little off for the past few games, but the play of David Wood has been outstanding. The sophomore forward scored two goals for the third straight game as he helped DU defeat Siena Heights 3-1.
DU was looking to rebound after a tough defeat to rival Aquinas College on Wednesday and the Panthers did just that as they used an aggressive offense to down the Saints 3-1 on their homecoming day.
David Wood got the Panthers started with a goal at the 27:14 mark on a pass from Brad Nyhoff. DU would play solid defense for the remainder of the half and went to the locker room leading 1-0. Less than six minutes into the 2nd half, the Saints tied the game as they got a ball past Jack Owens who was in net for DU.
Wood would add his second goal of the game which turned out to be the game-winner at 74:21 on a quick two touch pass from Elfid Kovzcevic and Anthony Santilli. Kovacevic would then add a goal soon after on a penalty kick for the final outcome of 3-1.
The win vaults DU up the WHAC standings into 4th as they now stand at 6-4 on the year and 2-3 in conference action. DU will travel to Saginaw on Wednesday for a rare non-conference tilt to take on Saginaw Valley State.
