Grand Rapids, Mich. - The five Davenport seniors made sure they ended their home career on a high note as they went out with a 8-0 victory over Siena Heights. The Panthers earn the #3 seed in the WHAC Playoffs as they end the regular season at 10-7-1.
After an up and down season, the seniors came out strong today to lead their team to its most convincing win of the year. DU got the scoring going early when David Wood scored his first of two goals on the day just 6:38 into the first half. The goal was Wood's 16th of the season which broke the Davenport single season goals record set last year by Efrain Hernandez.
The Panthers struck four more times in the opening half as they received goals from Duvare Minto, Brad Nyhoff, Elfid Kovacevic and Bryant Roos. On the Panthers fourth goal of the game. senior Elfid Kovacevic displayed some mastery footwork and scored the goal in the top left corner of the net.
After leading 5-0 heading into the second 45 minutes, Davenport did not let up the offensive pressure even with most of their starters gaining valuable rest. Efrain Hernandez scored his first goal of the game after posting two assists in the opening half on a beautiful pass from Mitchell Nol. Another senior, Lewis Robinson, added his 2nd goal of the season on a corner kick and David Wood finished the scoring for the Panthers with just under a minute to play when he put away a ball from Anthony Santilli.
The win finishes the regular season for the Panthers with a record of 10-7-1 and 6-5-1 in conference play. DU will await their first WHAC Tournament foe as they have earned the #3 seed in the 4-team playoffs. The Panthers will either be traveling to Aquinas or Madonna for the semifinals.
