ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Today's 2-0 win over Concordia clinches DU's first ever WHAC Tournament berth with two league games remaining. DU is now 7-6-1 overall and 6-3-1 in WHAC play and has 19 points which is tied for 2nd with Aquinas and seven better than Madonna.
Davenport, which has already broke the single season wins record under new head coach Chris Allen, has now qualified for the post-season tournament for the first time in their 4-year history.
The Panthers won their second consecutive game today as they downed Concordia 2-0. Catherine Howard (Lowell, Mich.) finished off her fourth shutout of her freshman campaign as she was helped by a strong defense in front of her.
DU got on the board in the opening half at the 25:58 mark when Ashley Phillips (Stevensville, Mich.) scored her sixth goal of the year on an assist from Shayla Crossman (Hudsonville, Mich.).
The Panthers then iced the game in the 59th minute when Icelander Karitas Elvarsdottir scored her first goal in a DU uniform on a pass from Sarah Pitmon (Grandville, Mich.).
DU is now 7-6-1 and 6-3-1 in the WHAC and will take on Aquinas College for a very important match on Wednesday at AQ. Game time is set for 4:00 PM.
