Balanced Hitting Gives Panthers 4-2 Win at Trine

March 20, 2009

Box Score

ANGOLA, Ind. - Timely hitting and a solid pitching core led DU to a 4-2 win at Trine University today. The win is the 7th in their last eight games with four more slated this weekend against Ohio Northern and Marian College.

For the second day in a row, the bats got the team off to a quick start as DU jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first two innings. Matt Collins and Joe Freist each came around to score in the top of the first and then Jake Loomans scored in the second. The 3-0 lead gave pitcher Jarrett Luyk room to play and he was very solid in picking up his third win of the season.

Freist as well as Derrick Gentile picked up two hits each for the Panthers as ended up tacking on one more run in the fifth.

Two runs by the Thunder made things interesting but the DU bullpen was very solid led by Corey Anderson (2IP, 0H, 1K), Nick DePender (1IP, 2K) and Bobby Kwekel (1IP, 2K).

The win lifts DU to 19-4 on the year with two double-headers schedule at Ohio Northern and Marian College this weekend.
