KENOSHA, Wis. — Davenport baseball salvaged a four-game weekend split (19-21, 10-6 GLIAC) at Wisconsin-Parkside with a commanding 23-8 victory on Sunday. Davenport amassed 26 hits, including seven doubles and five home runs, to secure the win, marking the fourth-most hits in a game in school history. A decisive fourth inning saw Davenport add ten runs to their tally.
The first inning set the tone as
Sam Clay singled to center field, followed by
Carson Lindau's double that advanced Clay to third.
Justin Johnson was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Dylan Pawenski then hit a ground-rule double to score two runs. A passed ball allowed Johnson to score, and
Aiden Warn hit a two-run homer to deep right, boosting Davenport to a 7-0 lead before the Rangers could even bat. The Rangers however did answer back with four runs in the bottom of the first to chase DU starter
Carson Anthes. Dylan Sayles had a RBI double and Jackson Lindquist had a RBI single as part of that inning.
In the second inning, Warn continued his strong performance with a solo home run to deep center, while
Wyatt Epple and
Julian Contreras each contributed RBI singles. Davenport led 10-4 after two innings.
Davenport's lead grew in the third inning when Johnson scored on Warn's RBI single to make it 11-5.
The fourth inning saw a significant surge as Johnson's three-run homer extended the lead. Epple was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, adding another run, and
Aidan Arbaugh drove in two more with a single. Clay closed the inning with a three-RBI double, pushing Davenport to a 21-5 advantage.
In the fifth inning, Warn hit his third home run of the game, a two-run shot, tying the single-game school record, and bringing the score to 23-5.
The Rangers showed some resistance in the sixth, scoring three runs on Max Johnson's three-run homer, but Davenport maintained a 23-8 lead and won by that same margin.
Gage Vota delivered a strong performance and calmed the pitching staff after the early Anthes exit, pitching 4 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run, striking out three batters, and earning the win for a 3-1 record this season.
Gabe Helder contributed a scoreless inning in relief, giving up just one hit while striking out one.
Warn led Davenport with a powerful performance, hitting three home runs and driving in a season-high six runs while scoring four times. Johnson contributed with a home run of his own, tallying three RBIs and scoring three runs. Epple added to the offensive display with a home run, driving in three runs and scoring three times. Clay also made an impact with three hits and three RBIs, helping secure a robust offensive effort.
