Panthers Fall as 27 Runs are Scored at Grace College

April 17, 2009

Box Score

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Looking to post a win heading into a very important WHAC series with Indiana Tech, the Panthers were unable to hold onto a late lead as they fell 14-13 to Grace College. DU will travel to Fort Wayne, IN tomorrow to take on the Warriors at 1:00 PM.

After falling on Monday to rival Aquinas in a double-header, the Panthers tried to get back on the winning track in non-conference action but were unable to close out the Lancers giving up 2-runs in the final at-bat to lose their 3rd straight game.

The bats came alove early and often for DU as they put up three runs in the first, added a fourth in the second and then took a 9-6 lead after piling on 5 more in the 4th inning. Unfortunately the Lancers hitters were on just as much as the host team scored in every inning but three as they posted two late runs to take the victory.

Taking the loss for Davenport was Bobby Kwekel as Joe Hill led the offense with a 4/6 effort as he drove in 4 runs and scored 2 runs. Brian Spykerman and Chris Sanchez also had multi-hit games as Spykerman drove in 4 runs as well.

DU will open up a four game set with Indiana Tech on Saturday in Fort Wayne before hosting the Warriors on Sunday at Sullivan Field beginning at 1:00 PM.
