GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Ashley Phillips' goal with only 22 minutes proved to be the game winner as the Panthers defeated Concordia today 1-0. The win lifts DU to 4-3-0 on the year and they are now 3-1-0 in league action.
After defeating Cornerstone on Wednesday for the first time in school history, the Panthers came out a little flat today but the offense gave themselves some great chances in the opening 45 minutes, but none got by the CUAA keeper.
Coming out of halftime, the Lady Panthers were much more aggressive and it paid off at the 68:20 mark when Ashley Phillips (Stevensville, Mich.) headed in a corner off the foot of Alyssa Malone (Hudsonville, Mich.).
The goal was Ashley's third in her last two games and proved to be the game winner as the Davenport defense held tough and DU goalkeeper Catherine Howard (Lowell, Mich.) posted hr second straight shutout.
DU improves to 4-3 on the year and 3-1 in WHAC action. They will travel to Siena Heights next weekend for a first place showdown with the Saints. DU will return home on September 30 when they host Aquinas College.
