3-1 Victory over Huston Tillotson Gives DU 2-1 Record on Texas Trip

BROWNSVILLE, Texas - DU improved its overall record to .500 at 7-7 with a 4-set win over Huston Tillotson today in Brownsville, Texas. The Panthers will return home on Monday and prepare to face NAIA #9 Madonna on Tuesday in Livonia.

After splitting on day one of the UT-Brownsville tournament, the Lady Panthers came out swinging on Sunday as they grabbed the first set 25-20 before falling in set two 25-21.

The team quickly regrouped and cruised in the final two sets winning 25-13, 25-16 to capture 2nd place in the tournament.

Leading the offense for Davenport was Kayla Vandermolen (Cedar Springs, Mich.) who dished out 31 assists and posted 8 kills on just 17 attempts to hit for a .412 percentage.

Also finding double digits in the kill category was Kelse Moon (Fremont, Mich.) with 11 and Kassie Graves (White Cloud, Mich.) with 10.

Four different Panthers posted double-digit digs as Courtney DePriest (Grand Rapids Mich.) led the way with 14. Also helping out on defense were Gina Turner (Grand Rapids, Mich.), Graves and Vandermolen who finished with 13, 13 and 10 digs respectively.

DU will travel to Livonia on Tuesday for a matchup with the NAIA #9 Crusaders of Madonna University. Davenport has never beaten their WHAC rival in their three year battle but the Panthers will look to pull the upset as MU has lost at home once already.
