ADRIAN, Mich. - Davenport allowed a late goal with just over 15 minutes to play today as the host Saints of Siena Heights downed DU 2-1. The loss drops the Panthers to 5-4-0 on the year and 3-2-0 in the league.
After defeating Aquinas in a big matchup, the Panthers entered today's contest missing two key players as defenseman Carl Winterbottom (Coventry, England) and forward David Wood (Middlesborough, UK) both were out with injuries sustained in the victory on Wednesday.
Duvare Minto (St. Mary, Jamaica) kept his offensive streak going as he gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead just five minutes into the game.
The lead went away just 14 minutes later when the Saints scored to tie the game and it would be 1-1 heading into halftime.
After some good opportunities to take the lead failed the Panthers kept the pressure on but Siena got the upper-hand in the game when they scored with 15:07 remaining in a goal that turned out to be the game winner.
James Gilpin (Newcastle, UK) took the loss in goal for the Panthers dropping his season record to 4-4 on the year as he made 11 saves on the night.
The loss ends a three-game winning streak for Davenport as the team is really starting to come together with eight games remaining this season.
DU will enter Wednesday's game at Madonna University on Wednesday with an overall mark of 5-4-0 and a league record of 3-2-0. DU is tied for first place in the league with 9 points with three other teams with one game remaining in the first half of WHAC play.
