GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The storm that rolled through West Michigan on Tuesday had a direct impact on the women's soccer game between DU and Cornerstone as neither team could post a goal in 110 minutes of play. The tie leaves DU at 7-3-4 heading into Saturday's regular season final vs. Aquinas.
Davenport entered the game on Tuesday looking to hand the Golden Eagles their first league loss but the scoring came hard to come by with neither team scoring in the 0-0 tie.
Playing into the wind in the opening half did not disturb DU as they finished with the same amount of shots (4-4) as their counterpart. As sides switched which seemed to gave DU an advantage turned the exact opposite with CU controlling the play while outshooting the Lady Panthers 7-3.
After some key saves from each goalkeeper down the stretch, the game entered overtime and again the offenses were unable to create any significant chances with the tough conditions.
The tie gives DU one more point in the conference race with one game remaining. The Lady Panthers can sew up the third seed and home playoff game with a win over rival Aquinas on Saturday at 12:30.
The team will celebrate senior day before the game and DU will broadcast it on the DAN starting at 12:15pm.
