GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - In her first match against her alma mater, Megan Garner led the Lady Panthers to their first win ever at Cornerstone with a 3-1 (25-17, 15-25, 25-19, 25-20) win on Tuesday night.  Davenport improves to 11-6 overall and is now 3-1 in conference play.

With a big crowd heavily against them, the Lady Panthers pulled off what no other team at DU before them could as they defeated their arch-rival on their home court with convincing wins in sets one, three and four.  DU struggled in the second with hitting errors and serve receive, but recovered to down CU for only the second time in school history.

Set one was back and forth for the first ten points, but behind the serving of sophomore Kelse Moon (Fremont, Mich.), the Lady Panthers slowly started to pull away building a 16-12 lead forcing CU into a timeout.  The lead would grow to five on a kill from Brittany Bott (Hudsonville, Mich.) and to as many as seven after a tip kill by Nicole Chase (Caledonia, Mich.).  DU eventually won the opening set 25-17.

For as much as the Lady Panthers avoided the mistakes in the opening set win, the exact opposite happened in the second as DU committed eight hitting errors and three receiving errors resulting in a lop-sided 25-15 loss as the match went into the break tied 1-1.

In the very important third set, DU got off to a strong start behind the serving of Moon once again as DU took a 3-3 tie and made it into a 9-3 margin forcing CU into a timeout as Davenport picked up two kills from Joyce Larioza (Fowlerville, Mich.) and one from Kayla Vandermolen (Cedar Springs, Mich.).  The cushion grew to as many as eight at 19-11 as the DU offense really clicked midway through the set.  DU finished off the Golden Eagles 25-19 behind a .211 hitting percentage.

The fourth and final set showed off an outstanding Davenport defense at the net and in the backrow.  The Lady Panthers finished with three solo blocks on the night and 12 assist blocks and many came in the deciding 25-20 victory.  Nicole Chase (Caledonia, Mich.) and Kayla Vandermolen (Cedar Springs, Mich.) led the way at the net with four blocks each while Sami Hausmann (Marne, Mich.)and Courtney DePriest (Grand Rapids, Mich.)led the way with 16 digs each.

Offensively, Davenport was led by sophomoreKassie Graves (White Cloud, Mich.) with 14 kills as Brittany Bott (Hudsonville, Mich.) and Nicole Chase (Caledonia, Mich.) chipped in with eight each.  Vandermolen finished a great night with 33 assists and nine digs.

DU will return to the court on Saturday  when they travel to Concordia for a matchup with the Cardinals.  They will then play at Northwstern Ohio on Sunday.
