Panthers Overcome Slow Start to Defeat Lourdes 3-1

Davenport now 4-2 in league play with tourney at Madonna set for this weekend

Box Score

SYLVANIA, Ohio - Davenport overcame a slow start on Wednesday night to outlast host Lourdes in a league match 3-1. It was the second win for the Panthers over the Grey Wolves this year with a non-conference match back in September also going four sets in a DU win.  Davenport is now 18-10 overall with a tourney at Madonna set for the weekend.

Head coach Megan Garner and her team picked up their fourth win in league play on Wednesday with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-13, 25-12, 25-22) win over host Lourdes.  Set one was one to forget for Davenport as they fell 25-23 trailing by as many as seven (17-10) before rallying to make things interesting down the stretch. DU quickly regrouped in two strong middle sets winning 25-13 and 25-12 to take a 2-1 advantage.

Set two was close at 13-10 in favor of DU but a 12-3 run to end it put away the Grey Wolves. During the run, Kelse Moon posted five of her match high 12 kills.  The third set was dominated by DU as they jumped out to a 10-3 lead and increased it to as many as 13 on back to back kills by Jenn Brunink and Rebecca Wadsworth.

In a much closer set four, Davenport used a 6-3 run over the final nine points to post the 25-22 win. There were 17 ties or lead changes during the set in which four different players had at least two kills and four digs highlighted by senior Courtney DePriest with two kills and four digs and freshman Belma Alic with six digs.

Post-Match Quotes - Heather Deal and Kelse Moon

Heather Deal -  "Being 4-2 in the conference is great motivation for the rest of the season. This weekend will help prepare us for our last few league matches leading into the conference tournament. Right now we just need to keep working hard in every practice for a strong finish this season."

Kelse Moon - "After the first set, we really picked up our intensity and defense and we started playing together. Once we got used to the environment and gained confidence we stepped up and played our game."
