GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – With the WHAC regular season title on the line on Wednesday night, it was cross-town rival Cornerstone that came out firing as they took home a 3-0 victory and their first league title since 2006.  The loss drops DU to 4-9-4 with their regular season finale set for Saturday at Aquinas at 3:00pm.

Not much action in the first half from either offense as the goal tenders and defensive units stole the show allowing limited scoring opportunities and fewer shots on goal.  The first half would come to a close with both teams failing to put a ball behind the opposing goalie.

The second half was taken control of quickly by Cornerstone, as they scored the first and ultimate game winning goal of the night off the foot of Brian Nimmo at the 47:38 mark.  Cornerstone would add two more goals in all to win in a final of 3-0.

With the win Cornerstone claims its first outright WHAC championship since 2006.  Davenport plays again Saturday at Aquinas and a win secures the second seed in the WHAC tournament.

Post-Game Quotes - Carl Winterbottom

On the disappointment of tonight's outcome “We are disappointed that they took the league championship and disappointed that we didn't play as well as we had wanted too.”

On regrouping for Saturday “You always get yourself up for your rival.  When you hear the word Aquinas you are already motived.  We will have to work on stuff in practice to be ready for Saturday.”
