GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – For the second consecutive year, Davenport won their own Tip-Off tournament. The third-ranked Panthers defeated Northland International Friday night and then beat Indiana-South Bend 66-44 in the Championship game this afternoon. Davenports improves their overall record to 2-0 on the season.

James Humphrey got the Panthers on the board first with a layup a minute and a half into the game. Just as they did against Northland International last night, Davenport came out with intensity on defense holding IU-South Bend scoreless until just under 14 minutes were left in the half.

Davenport reached their largest lead of the first half after James Nelson nailed a three-pointer to give the Panthers a 20-5 lead. Indiana-South Bend cut the Davenport lead to as little as six with 3:27 second left in the half, but wouldn't get any closer as the Panthers were able to push the lead to 10, 31-21, at the half.

James Humphrey and DeArmond Davis went on their own 9-0 run to start the second half for Davenport, quickly pushing the Panther lead to 19. Davenport's lead for most of the second half fluctuated between 17 and 22 points.  The Panthers defense held the Titans to just four points over the last five minutes to close out the game.

James Humphrey led the Panthers with 20 points and three block, both team highs. DeArmond Davis added 13 points and a team high seven rebounds for the Panthers.  JaVontae Ford also scored in double digits for Davenport with 11 points.

Davenport will next be in action on November 11th and 12th when the Panthers take part in the Ness Brothers HOF Tournament in Huntington, Ind. Davenport will open with Culver Stockton before taking on host Huntington
