GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - In their first match since returning from their spring break trip, the men's tennis team posted an impressive 9-0 win over Adrian College. The women's team also posted the same margin of victory as they will both host Alma College on Saturday.
The women improved to 6-8 on the year with their sweep of all six singles matches and all three doubles.
The doubles were really no contest for the Lady Panthers as Davenport won by a combined score of 24-8. The most dominating performance came at #1 doubles with
Diana Favela and
Denisse Favela posting an 8-1 win.
During the singles portion, Davenport got three straight set wins from each of the Favelas and also
Erin Hossack who won her match 7-5, 6-2. At #6 singles,
Kelly Todd pulled out a thrilling 5-7, 6-4, 10-8 win.
On the men's side, Davenport was just as dominate as only one match went the full three sets in singles with
Eric Pell finishing off a 10-7 win in the third and deciding set. At #3 singles, Vitaly Schumilov won by the most convincing way with a 6-0, 6-1 win and his efforts were matched by
Chris Grashorn at #6.
The doubles team of
Matt Weiden and Schumilov won 8-1 as DU swept all three by outscoring the Bulldogs 24-9.
