JOLIET, Ill. – Davenport used an early second half goal from WHAC Player of the Week Letesha Cannonier to propel them to a 1-0 victory over a very good University of St. Francis (Ill.) team. Catherine Howard picked up the win in net for DU with 10 saves which gives the Panthers a 6-2 record with four non-conference games left on their schedule.

The first half of the contest was dominated by the home team as they outshot DU 10-5 and also picked up six corner kicks compared to Davenport's zero. The play of the Panther defense combined with Catherine Howard in net allowed the Davenport to keep the score tied up 0-0 heading into the final 45 minutes.

Four minutes into the second half Letesha Cannonier capitalized on a poor clearing attempt by a St. Francis defender to lift a shot into net and put DU up 1-0. The unassisted goal proved to be the difference maker as the Panthers would hold on for the 1-0 win and hand the Saints just their second loss of the year.

Freshman Tam Grzybowski and Cannonier led DU with three shots a piece and Howard picked up her fifth win in net.

After three straight road games Davenport will return to the DU Turf Field on Saturday to take on NCAA DII Notre Dame College. This will be the first time these two teams will meet in Panther history and kick-off is set for 3:00pm. Visit www.dupanthers.com to access live stats and video for Saturday's game.

On the talent of St. Francis – “St. Francis was a very good team tonight and we really worked hard to grind out this victory. If was very evident why this team was 5-1 coming into tonight's game.”

On the play in the second half – “I was very pleased with our performance in the second half. We scrapped out a goal from Tesh and our defense was fantastic and essential for us to maintain our 1-0 lead.”
