LEBANON, Tenn. – A first half penalty kick goal for #RV Cumberland University (6-1) proved to be the difference in a 1-0 road loss for Davenport. The Panthers are now 7-4 on the year and will kick off conference play on Saturday against Madonna.
The Panthers had ample scoring opportunities in the first half outshooting the host team nine to seven with three corner kicks.
Catherine Howard was in net for Davenport and at the 38:20 mark was unable to stop a penalty kick goal by the Bulldogs Rhianne Parsons.
Down 1-0 heading into the second half the Panthers continued to put pressure on Cumberland's goalie but the ball would just not roll their way.
Lizzie Paul led DU with six shots, three on goal, with
Karitas Elvarsdottir and
Tam Grzybowski each producing three shots in the game.
The 1-0 loss is the second time in three games that the Panthers have fell by a goal and Howard's fourth loss in net.
Davenport will return home on Saturday to kick off conference play against Madonna. Game time is set for 4:00pm at the DU Turf Field with live stats and video available.
