CHICAGO, Ill. - A second half goal by Jesse Asanin-Miroux was not enough to overcome a sluggish start for the DU men's soccer team on Saturday night as they fell 2-1 to host Robert Morris.  The loss drops the Panthers to 0-3-0 on the year with a trip to Ohio and Kentucky set for next weekend.

In a game that was delayed almost 30 minutes due to a severe storm in the greater Chicago area, the Panthers never were able to come back from a 2-0 first half deficit. Davenport ended up outshooting the Eagles 15-10, but many of the opportunities for Davenport just missed the target.

Robert Morris started out by getting a leg up on the board when they connected on a loose ball in the box in the 22nd minute.  The Eagles added to their lead just 17 minutes later and took the 2-0 advantage into the halftime break.

Davenport, which defeated Robert Morris at home a year ago, came out with much more intensity in the second half and dominated the play.  The Panthers finally broke through with a nice sweeping goal from junior Jesse Asanin-Miroux at the 73:12 mark.  The goal was assisted by Gerard John-Williams.

DU received numerous chances down the stretch but many of their shots went just wide or just high and the Eagles escaped with their first win of the season.

Jordan Bandstra, who got the start in net, took the loss which drops the senior to 0-2 on the year.  He finished the game with four saves and backup Kevin O'Brien came in at halftime and faced only one shot for the final 45 minutes.

Post-Game Quotes - Head Coach Carl Whitehouse

On playing in the wet weather - “The field played very fast and with it being a new field it was raised up a bit similar to ours at home.”

On the more aggressive play in the 2nd half - “We did not play a very good first half and we talked about it at halftime to step up the play.  There was not much intensity and it was a poor half of play.”
