Season Comes to Close with 4-0 Setback to Aquinas in WHAC Quarterfinals

Box Score

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Two goals in each half were too much to overcome for the Davenport Men's Soccer team on Saturday as they fell 4-0 to rival Aquinas in the quarterfinals of the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament. The loss ends the season for DU as they finish 8-9-1 while the Saints will advance to Tuesday's semifinal round where they will host either Northwestern Ohio or Concordia.

The WHAC Player of the Year Tyler Fischer recorded two goals including the game winner as he led Aquinas to a 4-0 win over visiting Davenport on Saturday. The Panthers fell behind early in just the 9th minute when Fischer got behind the DU defense to score the opening goal.

The Saints added to their lead just over five minutes later and took that 2-0 lead into halftime. Coming out of the break, DU showed much more intensity and pressure in their offensive end but Aquinas was still able to get through the Panther defense to record two more goals in route to the 4-0 win.

Davenport was outshot 19-12 with 10-6 being on goal. Bradley Lediard and Donal Lynch led DU with a pair of shots on goal while JC Smith had the most serious threat with a shot just off the cross-bar midway through the second half. DU keeper Mirza Harambasic ended the match with six saves.

Davenport ends their first season under head coach Chris Hughes with an overall record of 8-9-1 and will lose two players to graduation in Jesse Asanin-Miroux and Kevin O'Brien.

Post-Game Notes
Davenport ended their season by dropping five of its last six matches with a draw in the other…The two goals from Tyler Fischer gave the WHAC Player of the Year 25 tallies during the season…Davenport had 20 fouls in the game compared to just five for the Saints…The 8-9-1 record is just the second losing season in school history for DU
