EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport opened their match with a 3-0 advantage after the doubles play and they used the momentum to claim a 7-2 win over Calvin College. The win is the fourth straight for the Panthers as they take on Cornerstone on Tuesday at 1:00pm at Orchard Hills.
Davenport is hitting their stride just before entering the bulk of their conference slate and they will go into four consecutive WHAC matches on a 4-match winning streak after a 7-2 win over cross town foe Calvin on Monday.
DU got a big lift from their three doubles teams as the Panthers took a 3-0 lead into the singles play. The top two matches were tightly contested with DU posting 8-6 wins in each as Vitaly Schumilov teamed with
Victor Roland at No. 1 and Mattheus Carvalho partnered with
Keaton Briggs.
The singles matches were also close but DU managed to post wins in four of the six as they got a straight set victory from
Tyler Chambers (6-2, 7-5) and three set wins from
Victor Roland (0-6, 6-3, 6-3), Mattheus Carvalho (6-7, 7-5, 10-7) and
Keaton Briggs (6-0, 5-7, 6-1)
Davenport now will play four straight matches in conference beginning with a Tuesday 1:00pm contest against Cornerstone. The match will be played at Orchard Hills. DU will then host Indiana Tech and Northwestern Ohio on Friday and Saturday at Canepa in East Grand Rapids.
