GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After falling to UNOH 9-0 to end the regular season, Davenport put up a good effort against the Racers in the WHAC semi-finals as they were defeated 5-3. Davenport will face Indiana Tech in the 3
rd place match tomorrow at Orchard Hills.
Davenport fell into an early hole after dropping the No.1 and No.2 doubles matches. The Panthers needed a big win from the No.3 doubles to stay in the match and they got just that. In an intense close match
Eric Pell and
Tyler Chambers pulled out the win in a tie breaker 9-8.
The singles matches didn't get off to the start that the Panthers wanted. Davenport dropped the No.3 and No.4 matches and were one loss away from the match being called. The Panthers stayed competitive as three matches went into a third set.
Vitaly Shumilov won the No.1 singles match in three sets 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 and
Eric Pell won the No.5 match 7-6, 6-4 to pull the Panther within one point at 4-3. However, moments later
Victor Roland was unable to pull out a win a tough three set match as he fell 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
