GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Coming off two thrilling victories in Tennessee last weekend, the Davenport University women's soccer team moves forward and enters the week closing the non-conference season with another three matches. The Lady Panthers kick off the week with a home match against Aquinas College Wednesday at 8 p.m. before hitting the road to Iowa to play at St. Ambrose University Saturday and Waldorf College Sunday. Both road matches start at 3 p.m. ET.
Head coach
Chris Allen's squad is off to the best start in program history with a 5-1 record. The Panthers best start prior to 2012 was in 2010, when they were 4-1-1 in their first six matches. The Lady Panthers defense also continues to be solid for Allen, allowing four goals this season while posting four shutouts.
St. Ambrose is coming off 2-1 victory over Midland University last Sunday. The Queen Bees scored 20 minutes into the match and although they lost the lead in the 49th minute, they avoided overtime when Ashley Dexter netted the match winner in the final minute. Before taking on Davenport Saturday, the Queen Bees will host Bellevue University Wednesday. The leader of the team is Ashley Dexter, who has been involved in seven of the 10 goals scored this season. She currently has three goals and four assists for a total of 10 points.
Waldorf is currently on a three-match losing streak and has been winless in its last five matches. The Warriors will have a busy week as they will play at Graceland University Tuesday and host Cornell College Thursday before welcoming Davenport Sunday. Molly O'Brien has been shown as the leader of the Warriors, for she is the only player on the team to have started all eight matches. With one goal and a pair of assists, she also shares the lead for points (4) with three teammates.
