Paul Interview
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Three was the number for
Lizzie Paul and
Tam Grzybowski Wednesday night. Paul recorded her second hat trick in her career and Grzybowski notched a career-high three assist to help the 21st-ranked Davenport University women's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Aquinas College in a non-conference match.
Thelma Gylfadottir also had a productive day on the field, netting a pair of goals while tallying an assist.
After receiving a pass from
Letesha Cannonier, Paul's shot from 30 yards goes over Saints keeper Jackie Gipe and into the net just before the 10
th minute mark.
In the 18
th minute, Paul and
Thelma Gylfadottir worked together to find
Paige Eli breaking away from Saints defense and the sophomore bested Gipe for the second goal of the night.
Grzybowski's busy night started 23
rd minute when Gylfadottir picked up a loose ball following Grzybowski's free kick from midfield and sent the ball into the back of the net to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead. Seven minutes later, Paul netted her second goal of the evening on header from Grzybowski's corner kick.
In the 71
st minute, Grzybowski dribbled down the left flank and made a pass to Gylfadottir where her open shot found the back of the net for her second goal on the evening. Paul completed the hat trick one minute later on a penalty kick.
Both teams recorded 13 shots, and although Davenport recorded its fifth shutout of the year,
