Women's Soccer Opens WHAC Play at Newcomer Lawrence Tech Saturday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - With the non-conference schedule complete, the Davenport University women's soccer team will begin its quest for its first-ever Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference title Saturday as it travels to Southfield, Mich., to play newcomer Lawrence Tech in both schools' inaugural meeting. Kickoff is at 12:30 p.m.

The Lady Panthers enters league play having compiled a 7-2 record through their non-conference schedule. Despite having completed their non-conference schedule, the Lady Panthers are approaching the end of their longest roadstand of the season. In addition to playing four straight matches away from DU Turf Field, the Lady Panthers have also been playing seven of eight on the road.

Davenport has also been performing well defensively, having allowed only allowed eight goals in nine matches. In fact, the Panthers are two shutouts away from matching the program's all-time record of eight set by the 2010 team.

The Panthers will be the first team the Blue Devils will host this season. It will also be the first WHAC match for the newcomers. The Blue Devils have played their first seven matches on the road and have compiled a 2-5 record. Recently, Lawrence Tech earned a 2-0 win at Rochester College. Lisa Zaffina has been the leader of the Blue Devils in nearly every offensive category. She's scored all five of the Blue Devils goals for a total of 10 points. Alexandra Bryden and Rebecca Tritt both pace the team in the assist column with one.
