SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Letesha Cannonier scored 44 seconds into the match while Natalie McHale and Alyssa Malone added breathing room to help the Davenport women's soccer team defeat Lawrence Tech 3-0 in both teams Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference season opener Saturday afternoon.

In addition to Cannonier and McHale scoring their second in back-to-back matches, Lizzie Paul notched her sixth assist of the season and Kasey Eberlein tallied her second and Laken Duchar-Clark earned her first.

The Lady Panthers wasted no time finding the scoreboard. Paul dribbled toward the end line on the right side before sending it to Cannonier in the penalty box to one-touch her second goal of the season. The insurance goal came in the eighth minute, Paige Eli took a shot near the left post but was deflected off the Blue Devils goalkeeper Katelyn Watson but McHale picked up the rebound and sent it into the unprotected net.

While the Lady Panthers outshot the Blue Devils 11-5, they also maintained possession of the ball for a majority of the match. The Blue Devils though opened the second half a bit more aggressive than they were in the first half, even though the Lady Panthers held a 6-3 shooting advantage. The Blue Devils knocked on the door several times with a couple of close shots, one of which had goalkeeper Michelle Marcus had to make a diving catch to preserve the shutout.

Davenport put the match out of Lawrence Tech's reach in the 72nd minute. After receiving a pass from Duchar-Clark, Eberlein dribbled down the right flank near the end line where she sent a cross to an uncovered Malone on the other side. Malone took an open shot into the goal to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Panthers wrap up their longest road stand of the season Wednesday at last year's WHAC Tournament winner Siena Heights. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
