Women's Soccer Stays at No. 7 in NAIA Top 25; Plays Two Matches This Week

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport women's soccer team carries the No. 7 ranking in the NAIA Top 25 for the third consecutive week as the Panthers prepare for two Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchups this week. Davenport will put its 8-1-0 overall record on the line Wednesday against Siena Heights at DU Turf Field at 5 p.m., while on Saturday it will travel across the state to make the first visit to Marygrove for a 12:30 p.m. kickoff.

About the NAIA Top 25
For the first time this season the NAIA has a new No. 1 in its rankings with Vanguard (Calif.) taking the top spot. The Lions, who are making their first-ever appearance at No. 1, tallied 10 first-place votes and 575 points en route to the distinction. Defending national champion Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), which has been ranked No. 1 all season, suffered a defeat to NCAA Division III Lee (Tenn.) last week and falls to No. 3 in front of Embry-Riddle (Fla.). Concordia (Ore.) (No. 4), Northwood (Fla.) (No. 5) and Westmont (Calif.) (No. 6) stayed put while Spring Arbor (Mich.) and Martin Methodist (Tenn.) jumped to eight and nine, respectively. Both team fell to the Panthers early in the season.
 
Scouting Siena Heights – 4-5-1, 0-1-0 WHAC – Head coach Scott Oliver
The Saints are coming off a 1-0 defeat at Madonna in both schools' WHAC opener last Saturday. Crystal Wilcoxen made three saves but allowed the only goal in the match in the 17th minute. Siena Heights had only recorded four shots, one on goal, against the Crusaders. Alexis Donnelly and Mikayla Ferer have been the top two scorers for the Saints. Donnelly has seven goals and five assists for 19 points while Ferer, who has only appeared in seven of the 10 matches played, has tallied six goals and three assists for 15 points.
 
Scouting Marygrove – 3-6-0, 0-1-0 WHAC – Head coach Tony Williams
The Mustangs are coming off a 7-0 runaway victory over Grace Bible Tuesday afternoon and more recently opened WHAC play with a 4-0 setback against Concordia at home last Saturday. Marygrove's other wins comes from on the road against Saint Francis in Howell, Mich., and at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College. It has also showed offensive struggles this season, scoring a total of five goals. Jessica Trimmer paces the team with three goals while the other two came from Cheyenne York. The goalkeeping duties have been shared between Rachel Gilmore and Kaitlyn Pusey. Both of them are 1-3 while Gilmore carries a 3.00 goals-against average, Pusey 4.15.
