GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Playing in front of their home crowd for the first time in 2013, the men's soccer team used two second half goals and a three point night from senior Jai Maw to down visiting UM-Dearborn on Wednesday evening. The victory is the sixth straight for the Panthers who improve to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the WHAC. DU will head to Adrian on Friday for an 8 p.m. kick against Siena Heights.
For the first time this season, the Panthers did not have to board a bus and head on the road and the friendly confines of the Turf Field shined on them as the team posted a 2-0 win over the only other team to come into the week without a league loss.
The first half saw very few chances for either team and UM-Dearborn actually led in shots on goal 2-1 but neither team could find the back of the net.
The same could be said for the first 20 minutes of the second half but then at 67:10, senior Jai Maw scored on a direct kick from about 35 yards out to put the Panthers up 1-0. As the Wolverines started to break out of their loaded up defense, the Panthers struck again with just under two minutes to play when Maw sent a through ball that TJ Ifaturoti made a great touch on and put it by the UMD keeper for the final tally of the match.
Mirza Harambasic finished with the two saves as the senior posted his third shutout of the season while improving to 10-2 in net.
Davenport will head on the road again on Friday when they face Siena Heights in Adrian. Match time is set for 8 p.m.
Post-Match Notes
Jai Maw has doubled his career total in goals as he has six this season while having six in the previous three years combined…Of the last four goals given up by Harambasic, two are from penalty kicks and he has lowered his GAA to 1.10…In the two meetings with the Wolverines, DU has outscored them 5-1
