GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Two Aquinas men's soccer defenders tried to stop the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference's leading scorer but they couldn't.

Dzenan Catic  16th goal of the season shot inside the goal box with 1:47 left in the match was the difference as Davenport walks away with a 1-0 double overtime victory over its crosstown rivals in front of a packed DU Turf Field Wednesday night. The Panthers improve to 12-2-0 overall and a perfect 6-0 record in league play.

Just under the two-minute mark in the match, Stuart Collins dribbled midway through the Saints territory before connecting to a well-covered Catic. Catic chest the ball down and tried to break through the defenders but a second shot off the left foot beat Saints keeper Craig Demshuk for the match's only goal.

Both teams struggled to find the offensive rhythm during the first 45 minutes, even though the Panthers won the shooting category. Davenport would take possession for a good majority of the second half, tallying11 shots total in the latter period and adding six more to both overtime periods.

Although on paper he made three saves, Panther keeper Mirza Harambasic showed a resilient effort between the posts while his opposite Demshuk had to stop five shots.

Davenport will have an opportunity to add more breathing room to its lead in the WHAC standings when second-place Northwestern Ohio visits DU Turf Field Saturday at 3 p.m. The Panthers will enter the match carrying 18 points while the Racers, owners of a 4-1 league record, have 12 points.
