YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Davenport women's lacrosse team trailed Young Harris by three goals at the start of the second half, but
Nikki Herrmann and
Tara Pluger both would score two of six consecutive goals to complete a rally that rewarded the Panthers a 19-14 victory over the Mountain Lions for the first win of the season Tuesday afternoon.
Pluger led the effort for the Lady Panthers (1-1) with five goals and an assist,
Sara Kuzava added four while Hermmann and
Kaitlyn Lowden scored three.
Taylor Balch also had a multi-goal game and
Britteny Willis and
Lexi Kruse scored one to complete the 19-point game.
The Lady Panthers quickly jumped on the board when Kruse and Balch scored in the first two minutes of the game. After Lowden netted her second goal of the game to build a 4-2 lead, the Mountain Lions (1-5) build a momentum by scoring five straight goals to take a 6-4 lead at the 19:40 mark.
Davenport would get back into the game with goals from Kuzava and Lowden, but the Lady Panthers would be chasing the Mountain Lions the rest of the half.
After Young Harris opened up the second half with a goal to take a two-point lead, Herrmann would get the Panthers rally started by scoring the first of six goals in the run.
Pluger would put the game out of the Mountain Lions reach when she scored the 17
th goal at 12:20 as the Panthers defense would hold on and beat Young Harris.
Davenport will take Wednesday off before playing two games in two days starting with North Carolina Wesleyan Thursday at 1 p.m.
