Panthers Grab Early Lead to Beat North Carolina Wesleyan for Second Straight Game

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Tara Pluger scored five goals, Taylor Balch had four and Emily DeVries added three as the trio guided the Davenport women's lacrosse team to a 20-6 victory over NCAA Division III North Carolina Wesleyan Thursday afternoon. The Lady Panthers have won back-to-back games on the young season and improve to 2-1.
 
Balch also notched five assists to lead the Lady Panthers in that category. Davenport also had a pair of goals from Schae Hoebeke, Nikki Herrmann and Kaitlyn Lowden.
 
Lena Henderson had a solid performance on between the pipes on the afternoon, conceding all six goals while stopping 10 shots.
 
DeVries broke the ice at 3:33 into the game and her goal began a run that pretty much decided the game. DeVries add three goals, Balch scored two and single goals by Pluger, Sara Kuzava, Mackenzie VanDerWarf and Kaitlyn Lowden gave the Panthers a 10-0 lead with 5:30 left in the first half.
 
The Lady Panthers will conclude their spring break trip in the south at the campus of Chowan in Murfreesboro, N.C., Friday at 3 p.m.
