FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Davenport concluded their regular season in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference with a 6-3 win over host Indiana Tech. The Panthers posted a 2-1 lead after doubles and then won four of the six singles matches to finish the conference with a 2-2 record. Davenport will play the University of St. Francis on Saturday afternoon as they stay in Indiana.
The Panthers, ranked No. 24 in the latest NAIA Top-25 poll, won their second straight match overall with a 6-3 victory over the Warriors of Indiana Tech. DU won two of the three doubles matches with the tandem of
Eric Pell and
Matheus Moreira de Carvalho winning 8-4 at No. 2 and the pair of
Tyler Chambers and
Zac Chambers winning 8-1 at No. 3.
Turning to singles, DU posted wins at No. 2, 4, 5 and 6.
Leading the way in singles was
Tyler Chambers, who picked up career win No. 100 with a 7-5, 7-6 (4) at the No. 4 spot.
Vitaly Shumilov moved one match away from career win No. 100 as he defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-2. The bottom three in the order did not drop a set as
Christian Woods won his 13th straight match overall with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 and Carvalho won just as convincingly at No. 6 6-2, 6-2.
DU will stay in Indiana where they will face the University of St. Francis Saturday afternoon.
