COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 6 ranked Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson College jumped on Davenport early and the Panthers never recovered as they fell by a final of 5-0 on Thursday night in Columbia, Ky. LWC scored in the sixth minute and followed with three more in the opening half as they improved to 3-1-1 on the season while dropping the Panthers to 4-2-0. DU will stay on the road yet again in part of their 11-match road stretch to start the season when they kick off against Bethel (Ind.) on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Coming off a very successful weekend that saw the young Panthers post a win over now No. 20 ranked Indiana Wesleyan while suffering a heart-breaking 2-1 double OT setback to No. 9 Rio Grande, the team entered another very difficult environment on Thursday night at perennial NAIA powerhouse Lindsey Wilson College.
The Blue Raiders, owners of 11 national titles since 1995, posted a goal in the sixth minute and followed with ones in the 14', 25' and 28' to take a commanding 4-0 lead into the locker room.
Looking to make some adjustments to crawl their way back in, the Panthers then allowed a goal just 27 seconds into the second half and the game would end by that same margin of 5-0.
Davenport finished with four shots (two on goal) while allowing LWC to put up 18 shots (eight on net).
The Panthers will again play on the road on Saturday when they face Bethel College (Ind.) in Mishawaka at 3 p.m. Live stats will be available for the match.
Post-Match Notes
Davenport has now played three straight matches vs. teams inside the NAIA Top-25 (Rio Grande - #8, Indiana Wesleyan - #20 and Lindsey Wilson - #6)…The No. 6 ranking by the Blue Devils is the highest NAIA ranked team Davenport has played since November of 2010 when they played at No. 2 Notre Dame College (Ohio)…It is the first shutout this season against the Panthers
