GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 7 Davenport women's soccer team came out fierce and ready to go Wednesday night. Lizzie Paul scored four goals, Karli Harris and Madison Sparks added two each and four Panthers contributed one each to defeat Cleary 12-0 in the non-conference finale.
The Panthers, who improves to 7-1 on the season, have won six straight and has blanked four opponents.
Paul, Harris and Sparks also tallied an assist on the evening while Beery helped two goals.
Davenport got on the board with a pair of Paul goals in the span of 10 seconds. In the third minute, Brenna Hartner took a shot inside the box and was deflected by Cleary keeper Paige Colosimo but Paul picked up the rebound and knocked in the first goal. As soon as the match restarted, the ball found the foot of Paul, who broke away from midfield and her shot past Colosimo and ricochet off the crossbar.
The action didn't stop there as a total of six Panthers added nine goals in the first 45 minutes. Abbey Tyson and Letesha Cannonier tallied the third and fourth goals, respectively, before Paul completed her fourth career hat trick at 22:59.
Michelle Marcus kept the Cougars scoreless before handing the goalkeeping duties to Lexi Kruse for the second half. Each keeper had to make one save between the posts.
Davenport, was in control for the start of the second half and added its 10th goal at 60:21 when Paul broke away from midfield and beat Colosimo for her fourth goal on the evening.
With the Cougars playing short-handed, the Panthers voluntary pulled a player off to play 10-v-10. For the sixth consecutive match, Davenport has dominated the offensive numbers, outshooting Cleary 26-8 overall, 22-3 on goal.
The Panthers will have over a week to rest up and prepare for their Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference title defense, which begins at home Sept. 28 against Lawrence Tech. Kickoff is at noon.

Davenport wins the inaugural meeting with Cleary…The last time Davenport reached double figures in goals was Sept. 11, 2010, when the Panthers tallied a school record 16 against Holy Cross…Lizzie Paul's last hat trick was against Holy Cross, when she scored a program-record nine goals…Sophomore Madison Sparks scored her first and second goals in her collegiate career.
