Pair of Non-Conference Wins Lift Men’s Tennis to 4-0 on the Year

ALMA, Mich. – Davenport traveled to Alma for a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday and came back with two victories as they defeated Lake Superior State 5-4 and the host Scots 9-0. DU is now 4-0 in dual matches and will be in action next on Friday and Saturday, October 4-5 at the Grand Valley State Invitational.
 
Head coach Patrick Grashorn led his team to a pair of wins at the Alma College tri on Saturday with the Panthers posting a combined 14-4 score.
 
In the opener vs. NCAA DII Lake Superior State, the Panthers took a 2-1 lead after doubles  behind wins from Tyler Chambers/Zac Chambers as well as Juan-Pierre van Antwerpen/Eric Pell by the identical scores of 8-6.
 
DU then got singles wins from Matheus Moreira de Carvalho and both Chambers' brothers.
 
The 9-0 win over the Scots was a dominating performance from start to finish with DU winning the doubles session by a combined margin of 25-13 (won 9-8 at No. 1 doubles) and during the singles session, DU dropped only 26 games winning every match in straight sets.
 
Davenport will be in action next from October 4-5 at the GVSU Invitational.
