Scouting Mount Vernon Nazarene – 1-2-1, 0-0-0 Crossroads – Head Coach Daniel Seiffert (Fifth Season)
The Cougars are coming off a 1-1 overtime draw at home against Georgetown College (Ky.), their second straight match featuring extra minutes. Mount Vernon Nazarene opened its season with a 4-1 victory over Rio Grande but would suffer a 2-0 defeat at No. 2 Olivet Nazarene. Since Mount Vernon Nazarene and Rio Grande have already met, the Cougars will take on Union College in the Marge Evans Classic. Like Davenport, the Cougars have only seen six student-athletes net a goal. Cougar Casey Apple scored two goals in the season-opener and one against the Panthers Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe Siena Heights to pace the team.
Scouting Rio Grande – 1-1-0, 0-0-0 MSC – Head Coach Callum Morris (Third Season)
The RedStorm have only played two matches thus far into the very young season, losing 4-1 to Mount Vernon Nazarene in the opener followed picking up 1-0 win at Point Park (Pa.). Before Rio Grande takes on Davenport Saturday, it will entertain Union College (Ky.) Friday following the Panthers-Cougars matchup. Karla Garn and Courtney Young have scored the only goals for the RedStorm in two matches. The Panthers and RedStorm have met last season at DU Turf Field. Davenport rolled past Rio Grande in both school's season opener that year, with Iceland natives
Thelma Gylfadottir and recently graduated
Karitas Elvarsdottir scoring two goals and assists, respectively.
