GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Lauren Yomantas made 35 saves but a three-goal second period was the difference in the game as the Davenport women's hockey team suffered a 4-0 defeat to Massachusetts Sunday morning. The Panthers, who fall to 7-12-0 overall, close their home schedule with a record of 4-8 at Patterson Ice Center and will play the remaining eight games on their inaugural season on the road starting with Miami (Ohio) Friday at 9:15 p.m.

The Panthers had to start out the game defending in their zone but managed to take a few scoring chances after the halfway mark of the opening period. Just under 12 minutes, Chantal Caraher moved the puck to the end of the Minutewomen zone and sent it to Sierra Hopkins. Hopkins couldn't capitalize but was back by Megan DeVries, whose shot was blocked by a UMass defenseman.

Davenport had another opportunity six minutes later when Darian Adams crossed the puck to the crease for Chantal Caraher, but the forward's shot was deflected by UMass netminder Chelsea Corell. While the Panthers were on the power play, Lexie Boydston moved the puck through traffic and able to take the shot but it went high.

While the Panthers appeared to be unbreakable in the second period, two mistakes proved to be costly as UMass capitalized on them. Following a faceoff, Ally Perdios slid the puck through the Panthers defense and under Yomantas for the first goal at 11:55.

After a Davenport penalty put UMass on the power play for the first time, it took the Minutewomen 13 seconds to score the second goal. Paige Harrington received a pass and fired a shot from a distance on the right side to the back of the net at 5:46.

The third goal came 1:50 later. As the goal crease became crowded, Raschelle Jaramillo managed to get the puck to cross the goal line. The Minutewomen put the game out of the Panthers reach with their fourth goal scored with 11:41 left in the third period.

Post-Game Notes
Davenport falls to 0-2 against Massachusetts…Yomantas' 35 saves made on the day is a season second-most.
