WHAC Tournament Final: Part IIFriday's match between Davenport and Northwestern Ohio marks the second straight year the two schools meet for the WHAC Tournament championship. The Panthers cruised to a 5-1 win over the Racers on the Turf Field last year.
TJ Ifaturoti scored twice while
Lito Esquivel scored once and added an assist.
Northwestern Ohio Since The Last MeetingA successful penalty kick by Dzenan Catic right before halftime lifted then-No. 14 Davenport to a 1-0 upset win over No. 11 Northwestern Ohio on a cold and cloudy afternoon on the Turf Field two weeks ago. The Racers were in complete control right from the start of the match, tallying at least 10 shots near the halfway mark and taking five corner kicks. Northwestern Ohio made a defensive mistake by making a bad tackle in their box to force a penalty kick with 24 seconds left in the first half. Although the Racers outshot the Panthers 10-7 overall, 7-5 in the second half, Davenport had played better control with the ball and put pressure on Northwestern Ohio's defense.
UNOH Since the MeetingSince their defeat at Davenport late last month, the Racers dominated contender 7-0 to win the WHAC championship outright but have escapted with 2-1 victories over Grand Rapids schools Cornerstone and Aquinas in the tournament. Davenport will be third opponent visiting Racer Field in the playoffs.
Davenport-Northwestern Ohio SeriesWith the Racers in year three as a program, they and Davenport have met only four times, with the last being on the Turf Field for the late last month. The Panthers are 3-0-1 against Northwestern Ohio.
