LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Davenport D2 hockey team looked to keep their winning streak to start the season alive against the University of Louisville. Donald Sund scored an early goal for the Panthers, but the Cardinals were able to rebound and win the game 5-1 to hand DU their first loss of the season. Davenport and Louisville will close out the weekend series on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
 
Davenport got off to another strong start as Donald Sund scored the first goal of the game to put DU ahead, 1-0. However, Louisville came back to tie the game at one heading into the first intermission.
 
The Cardinals took over in the second period scoring three unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead. In the third period, the high octane Davenport offense was looking to explode and make a comeback, but the Cardinal defense stood strong to keep the Panthers at ease in the third period.
 
Louisville added one more goal in the period to win the game 5-1 and hand DU their first loss of the year. Davenport outshot Louisville 46-45, and the Cardinal net minder stood strong making 45 saves to pick up the win.
 
The Panthers and Cardinals will close out the weekend series Saturday afternoon at the Iceland Sports Complex in Louisville, Ky. at 2:30 p.m.
