GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The men's tennis team opened up the spring season with a big 5-4 win over Ferris State last weekend and the schedule only gets tougher as they now will face their second straight GLIAC foe, Grand Valley State, tonight at MVP Sportsplex. The Panthers last met the Lakers in February of 2013 when they fell 7-2 and they will have a match against Northwood on Saturday as well.
Head coach
Patrick Grashorn took some time to answer some questions about their upcoming match with Grand Valley State. DU will have two more matches before heading to Florida for their annual spring break trip as they face Northwood on Saturday and then Rochester College on February 15.
Coming off a big win over Ferris State, how can the boy's use that momentum heading into match with GVSU
It was great to start the season off with a win against Ferris but I know that the guys have already put that match behind them and are ready for GVSU. We put in a good week at practice, focusing on problems I saw during the Ferris match. If we can draw from the positives and learn from the negatives from last week, I like our chances.
What did you learn from your first match of the spring season after being off for a few months?
It was apparent early that we're a stronger team than we were in October. We still have room to grow but I was happy overall with their performance. It's easy to have an emotional let-down after the intensity of doubles but the guys didn't let that happen.
