GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Playing their second straight weekend against NCAA DII and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foes, the No. 24 ranked Men's Tennis team posted a 0-2 record with losses to GVSU and Northwood. DU is now 5-2 on the season in dual matches and will host Rochester College on Saturday, February 15 in their final match before spring break.
On Friday night, Davenport fell victim to some close matches as the Lakers of Grand Valley State posted an 8-1 win at MVP Sportsplex. DU got their lone point in singles play after falling in all three doubles matches.
In the doubles side, at the top, DU dropped a 9-8 decision and also fell 8-5 at No. 3 doubles. Turning to the singles side,
Zac Chambers got the lone point for the Panthers as the senior won at No. 6, 6-3, 6-1. DU lost one match in in a pair of tie-breakers (No. 1 –
Jordan Parker) while
Matheus Moreira de Carvalho lost 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 5. GVSU closed out all of the other singles matches in straight sets.
On Saturday, DU played host to Northwood University (Mich.) and despite winning a pair of doubles matches, was unable to get three more wins in the singles set as they fell 6-3. Davenport won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles seeing the tandem of
Jordan Parker and
Matheus Moreira de Carvalho win 8-4 while
Sam Rogerson and
Juan-Philip van Antwerpen won at No. 2 by the score of 9-8.
The lone singles match DU was able to win was at the top as freshman
Jordan Parker was victorious 6-4, 7-6 (8).
The Panthers have one more match before they leave for Florida for their annual spring break trip as they will host Rochester College (Mich.) on Saturday, February 15.
