WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Jordan Zylstra accomplished a rare feat today as the senior pitched the ninth inning and then got the winning RBI to help Davenport to a thrilling come from behind 6-5 win over St. Francis (Ill.). The victory lifts the Panthers to 8-7 on the year as they complete their week in Florida with a mark of 6-6. DU will be in action next on March 15-16 when they travel to Lourdes (Ohio) to open conference play.

After falling in extra innings to Ashland on Friday and then getting swept by Point Park in a double-header yesterday, the baseball team was looking to finish its trip to Florida with a win and thanks to five runs in the final two innings including a walk-off walk, the Panthers accomplished that with a 6-5 win over the Fighting Saints.

The Saints were making their first appearance in their spring break trip and got an outstanding performance on the mound from starter Adam Panayotovich as the senior went seven innings while allowing just two runs and five hits while striking out five Panther batters.

The bats that got hot in a 13-0 win over Hannibal LaGrange on Friday, remained quiet for the fourth straight game until DU came to bat in the eighth inning trailing 5-1. Zack Sardelitti got the scoring started with an RBI single that scored Brendan Bender and that was followed by an RBI from Jordan Zylstra scoring  Derek Dennis. A Saints error allowed the final run of the inning as Cody Greear came home to cut the lead to 5-4.

After a perfect 1-2-3 ninth for Zylstra, the rally continued with Connor Seymour leading off and reaching base on an error. After Brendan reached on a single, the runners were moved over on a sac bunt from EJ Grochowalski. The Saints then walked the bases loaded only to throw a wild pitch to Zylstra to score the tying run. The game was then finished three pitches later as Jordan walked home the game winning run.

Zylstra picks up his first win of the season on the mound while Ryan Butzer and Blake Dahlstrom were both outstanding in relief for the Panthers combining to go 6.2 innings, allowing just six hits and one earned run.

Davenport will now have a two-week break before returning to the diamond on March 15 in their Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) opener at Lourdes University. Both days are scheduled double-headers.
